Cancer Research UK is the worlds leading independent charity dedicated to Cancer Research. Their mission is simple, to conduct World class research to improve the understanding of Cancer in today’s society, and of course to find ways to diagnose, treat and hopefully prevent the disease in the future. They are also the European leaders in the development of anti cancer treatments and support over 500 research group leaders throughout the UK, through a variety of funding mechanisms including research institutes, clinical centres, and project grants and are even currently training the next generation of cancer scientist’s and doctors. None of this would be possible however without the 30,000 volunteer workers and the 1,000,000+ regular donors that dedicate both their time and money for this more than worthy cause.

The Charity operates three air ambulance helicopters which cover an area of 8,000 square miles and 11 counties. This enables the paramedics to reach the furthest parts of our region within 19 minutes and treat patients in the critical golden hour. The County Air Ambulance carries out approximately 2,000 missions each year and has completed in excess of 21,000 missions since it commenced in 1991. The charity relies on people and organizations throughout the UK to raise in excess of £3 million every year to operate this valuable service.
