» Azuli: Miami 2007

Reviewed by Ben Gomori / Submitted 23-04-07 14:34

Label: Azuli Records
Format: CD
Genre: Electro House

Continuing their annual round up (and much better form recently) with their pick of the Miami crop, Azuli return with the simply titled Miami 2007.

Disc 1 mixes euphoric and moody house in fine style – kicking off with Boris Dlugosch’s quirky electro remix of The Migrants I Thought That and soon slipping into the sultry, brooding bass of Ben Macklin’s re-rub of Tim Andressen’s Everybody. Things keep pumping until we get to the blissful, summery vibes of Smax & Gold’s remix of Niels van Gogh vs Eniac’s Pulvertrum 2.0, striking a ray of uplifting energy into the mix and signalling the way for joyous cuts from Funkagenda, such as his classically-styled string-laden remix of Dave Spoon & Larua Vane’s jaunty Won’t Do It Again. Only one dud to speak of - Ultra DJs (it’s like bad trance) - though Gus Gus’ future-classic, Underworld style lush-houser Moss wpould have made a perfect finale.

Disc 2 has some great cuts on the more electro tip – from John Dählback’s wiggling, tripped-out Blink to huge, dancefloor-destroying synth-belters like Robot Needs Oil’s Volta and Acquaviva & Sven Weber’s First Stroke, so the first half rocks it solidly. The deeper, tribal section ain’t much fun truth be told and things don’t really pick up again until the last 2 tracks. Alexander Maier’s bouncy stripped-back electro cut Road of Injury redeems the latter half of the disc in a pleasant, Cocoon style.

There's also an unmixed version of this as well. Thumbs up
